FAQ

What is SPN750 even?A weekly fic prompt for the Supernatural fandom in which the challenge is to create a complete story of 750 words or less based on the prompt.

Why Is SPN750 A Thing? Some of my most productive time in fandom has been while taking part in challenges that force me to edit all the extraneous fluff out of my writing. Brevity is good. Also, doable in a week.

When is this even happening?SPN750 is launching Monday, 16th March (UTC/GMT). We will be running on UTC/GMT, each prompt round going from Monday through Sunday. At around about midnight UTC on Sunday, the current weekly round will cease, winner lists will be posted, and the new prompt will be posted.

Win!
This is where we start being bossy. Winning fills must:
- be 750 words or less
- be a complete story, with beginning, middle, and end
- use the post template (so mods can verify wins)
- post to comm OR comment on corresponding prompt post before the end of the round (approx midnight on Sunday, UTC)
Or Don't Win
If you can't edit your fic down to 750 words or less, or your 750 isn't a complete fic, or you don't make the deadline:
- use the post template
- post to comm OR comment on corresponding prompt post

Do I have to join the comm? What if I don't have a DW account?Nope, you don't. Only members can post, but anyone can comment, even if they don't have a Dreamwidth account, and you can leave your fills in the comments of the corresponding prompt post if you like.

What is a 'complete' story?A complete story is one with a beginning, middle, and end. It is not a single chapter of a longer work, and it must be readable on it's own, with no prior knowledge of the setting except for canon. It can be part of a series.
You can post incomplete works, but they will not be eligible for a win.

How do I even write a complete story in only 750 words!?Yeah, this isn't the easiest. It's not supposed to be. Your first draft will likely be way longer than 750 words. The challenge is to take that first draft, and tighten it. Remove the fluff, while keeping the good stuff, the essential stuff. The character development, the plot, the conflict, and the resolution.
The important thing is, do not be afraid. There's no penalty for not making it on the first go. If you can't get below 1000 words, post anyway. If you're up for it, ask for concrit in the comments.

Why isn't SPN750 on tumblr?Because [personal profile] aka_vamp isn't on tumblr.
You're welcome to promo the comm on tumblr if you wish. You're welcome to promo the prompts on tumblr if you wish.
Do not rec/promo participants fic on tumblr without permission from the author. Authors may give blanket permission to rec/promo when they post, if desired.

What about discord?Maybe, later on. It'll depend on mod support and numbers.

Pillowfort?Kinda. There's a post you can reblog here and the beginnings of a comm here.

Can I post on tumblr/pillowfort/hubzilla/fanexus/neocities/somewhere else?Absolutely! You can post wherever and whenever you want. There are no exclusivity deals here.
Use the #SPN750 hashtag on your chosen platform so participants can find each other :D

Can I post part of a story as my 750?You can, but you won't win. The challenge is to write a complete story, with a beginning, middle, and end, in 750 words (or edit down to 750 words), so a first chapter/beginning won't cut it, sorry. We're not stopping you, if the prompt has inspired, go for it, and you'll still absolutely be part of the 750 community, but your fic won't be eligible for a win.

Can I write in an established fic-verse?Got a series you're writing? An outtake, 'missing scene', oneshot, or whatever in the same 'verse is totally eligible for a win, as long as it's 750 words or less, and a complete story with beginning, middle, and end (aka, can be read and enjoyed by itself).

Can I write a crossover?Sure! However, this is an SPN challenge, so the story must be within the Supernatural universe, and include at least one SPN character.

What about art? Can I art for 750?If our prompts inspire you, art away! You can post here, add your work to the AO3 collection, you will be totally welcomed as part of the gang! Unfortunately, though, we're focused on tightening prose, so wins can only be awarded to words. We suck, I know.

Can I use SPN750 prompts for something else?Same type of challenge/comm, different fandom? Sure!
Bingo or some other type of challenge, any fandom? Sure!
Personal use, post wherever the heck you like? Sure!
Same type of challenge/comm, Supernatural fandom? No. Seriously, that's a bit rude.

How Do I Post? Use the post template.
Post wherever you want to post.
There's an AO3 Collection if you post there.
Link to where it's posted OR post to the comm. Members make a new post, non-members and nonny's post in the comments of the corresponding prompt post.

How Do I Tag?Check out the Tags page to see what's already available. If your needed tag isn't there, see if it autocompletes (it might exist, but if there's nothing in the tag yet, it may be hidden). If it doesn't exist, request the tag in the Ask Box.
Tag for:
Character (major characters, POV characters | first name only unless it's unclear)
Pairing (main pairing/s, not background | alphabetical ie: Dean/Sam or Dean & Sam)
Trope (curtainfic, hurt/comfort, ABO etc)
Current Prompt

Can I Post Anonymously?Yes! Posting anon is a valid life choice.
On AO3:
Along with adding your fic to the SPN750 collection, also add it to the Anonymous collection. This collection is unaffiliated, but [personal profile] aka_vamp has been using it for years and it is very trustworthy. It's not completely anon, collection mods (both for the anon collection and SPN750) are able to see your AO3 identity, however for hiding your authorship from wider fandom, it's very useful.
On Dreamwidth:
Comment anonymously on the prompt post, IP will not be recorded, complete anonymity (to my knowledge).
